Damien O’Reilly hails from Corofin Co. Clare, an area steeped in Traditional Music. He began playing the accordion at the age of nine, taught by Conor McCarthy who had a major influence on his playing. He enjoyed many great years with the Inis Og Ceili Band winning numerous All-Ireland titles, taught by his brother Padraic.
Growing up, Damien was heavily influenced by the North Clare tradition which reflects his current style. Fiddle music had a strong effect on his music and listened to many greats, such as Tony Linnane,; James Cullinan, Frankie Gavin and Joe Ryan to name but a few.
Damien’s music has brought him to France, Germany, Holland, and Italy. He has been teaching music in his native Corofin for the past three years.
He now resides in Galway where he is a third year Civil Engineering student of NUI Galway.
